Message (No error message. Backup job is hung and cannot be stopped.)
Notes This can occur if one Retrospect CLIENT program has stopped working for some inobvious reason, which in turn can bring an entire nights worth of scheduled backups to a screeching halt, giving one rogue client the power to DOS your entire enterprise backup system. Apparently the client software is not fault tolerant enough to restart itself, or at least to release the connection to the server, if something goes wrong. Further, apparently the server software cannot gracefully recover in this situation either. These observations might lead you to wonder whether Retrospect can be trusted for a mission as critical as salvaging your entire enterprise when things do go wrong -- where else would fault tolerance and graceful recovery be more important? Anyway, you may be able to manually recover by killing and restarting the hung process on the CLIENT. Killing the server process may lead to hours of additional recovery work.
